There are so many Indie games out there, however, 'Gish' stood out amongst the rest. He's a twelve pound blob of tar on a quest to save his girlfriend Brea, whos been kidnapped and dragged away into the Sewers of Dross. The game takes only a couple of minutes to master as poor Gish can do but a few things: a slight jump, slipperyness, stickyness and becoming heavy. Nevertheless, there are many ways in which these little tricks can transform our blob of tar into a valiant hero. Such as sliding through small gaps using slipperyness, climbing walls and walking on the ceiling effortlessly using stickyness, or smashing strange creatures to pieces by becoming heavy as you land on them. This humourous game has a dark and grimey atmosphere created by the graphics. The characters interact well with the environment and with the physics engine the whole game comes together pleasingly, which felt like a rare find amongst many other indie games I played.
There is some inoffensive background sounds to accompany these graphics and Gish's adventure, however it can get a bit repetitive and adds little to the gaming experience.
'Gish' is one of many 2D platform games, yet its original cartoon style and simple design makes it fresh and different to the rest. This game shows how a simple idea can turn into an addictive and challenging game.
